Fraud Rules with Shopify and ShipHero

Shopify payments that a customer does not authorize are fraudulent. Fraudulent orders often result in lost money due to customers initiating a charge-back on the credit card used. Shopify analyzes every order, bringing any suspicious orders to your attention for investigation.

The Fraud Score

Shopify's built-in Risk Analysis marks each order with a Fraud Recommendation that is sent to ShipHero. You have the option to set rules defining what orders you would like to receive the "Fraud Hold" flag. If an order is marked "Fraud Hold," it won't show up in the ShipHero iOS app to ship unless that order's "Fraud Hold" is manually removed. 

ShipHero Order Risk Levels

ShipHero applies a Fraud Hold to an order based on Shopify’s recommendation to “Investigate,” “Cancel,” or “Accept.” ShipHero identifies these as the Order Risk Levels. When ShipHero places an order on Fraud Hold, it is not available to ship.

The Fraud Settings are located in your Shopify Store settings. Navigate to My Account > Stores and click the settings button next to the store you are updating. In ShipHero, you can toggle the severity of your store’s fraud vigilance. The Order Risk Levels in ShipHero are:

  • Investigate or Cancel
  • Cancel
  • Never

For example, if ShipHero is set to “Investigate or Cancel,” when Shopify flags an order as either “Investigate” or “Cancel” then ShipHero will flag it with a Fraud Hold.

If ShipHero's Order Risk Level is set to “Cancel,” then only orders from Shopify with the designation of “Cancel” will be flagged with a Fraud Hold.

Fraud Hold Filters

On the ShipHero Orders page, you can filter by Fraud Hold. If you use a third-party fraud prevention platform such as Subuno, Signifyd, or Riskified, you can prevent ShipHero from bringing in orders until they’re set as paid. This means orders don’t come into ShipHero for shipping until the fraud prevention platform approves them. 

This setting is in the ShipHero Dashboard under My Account > Stores. Navigate to Settings in the Shopify store you wish to configure and check the box that says “Only import orders into ShipHero that have been paid for."
